This poster session presents a project done with 4th grade, funded by the Virginia Beach Education Foundation. Students used cameras fitted with SD cards, Chromebooks, Book Creator application, and a book binding machine to create books about their community. This poster session is for teachers across grades K-5 and can also be relevant for the secondary level. The poster will present the processes and final artifacts that came from the project which culminated in authors' celebrations and book buddies across grade levels in the school. Importantly, this project is representative of Place-Based Education, which is a pedagogic style of immersing students into their greater communities. Furthermore, these innovative uses for Book Creator aim to cultivate students’ intrinsic motivation for writing by providing a platform for personal expression about experiences in an important community space: their school!
