We will share our journey in how we have incorporated Legos for learning and when appropriate, combined it with stop-motion animation to allow our students from kindergarten through fifth grade creative ways to demonstrate their understanding of concepts across the curriculum. We will show how students work collaboratively to develop and explain an idea or concept, create a storyboard or plan, and refine and execute their plan by building models using Legos. Attendees will be given access to resources and plans that we have used which align to Standards of Learning, support the 5C’s (collaboration, communication, creativity, citizenship, and critical thinking), and that also help develop broader skills like resiliency, and problem solving that are so vital for student success. These resources and plans will cover all content areas and grade levels K-5 and will also include ideas and examples for addressing digital citizenship and support for social emotional learning. We will highlight the successes and challenges that we have experienced on this engaging and exciting journey and provide possible solutions! We will also share how we utilized classroom lessons, library lessons, and/or Makerspace to provide access and time for students to work. Students love learning with Legos! But what if you don’t have access to Legos? Have no fear - we will also share how these same ideas can be implemented and awesome outcomes can be achieved by using other widely available resources like Google Slides and Scratch!
